At IEEE @ UMD, we take pride in the projects we build, the workshops we host, and the competitions we participate in. Here’s a look at some of the highlights from our chapter’s activities within the past couple of years.
Workshops
Throughout the academic year, IEEE @ UMD hosts technical workshops that provide hands-on experience with practical engineering skills. Recent highlights include PCB design workshops, where students learned schematic capture, layout techniques, and fabrication basics, and Arduino workshops, where participants practiced programming microcontrollers and building circuits for real-world projects.

Volunteering
IEEE @ UMD is committed to community outreach and STEM education. Our members recently volunteered at Maryland Day and the STEM Expo, where we hosted interactive engineering demonstrations and hands-on activities for visitors of all ages, inspiring future generations of engineers.

Projects
One of our recent projects involved designing and building a Safe Unlocker, pictured on the left below, which challenged our members to integrate mechanical design with circuit and software control. In another project, we created an LED Cube, using Arduino code to control a complex array of individually soldered LEDs. This project helped members strengthen their skills in embedded programming, circuit building, and soldering. Currently, we are planning an ambitious 16×16 LED Cube. If you are interested in contributing, please reach out to our Project Chair.
